Yuehwern Yih, Ph.D.

Chair of Judges - World Dancesport Federation (WDSF) and USA Dance.

Certified Adjudicator - World Dancesport Federation (WDSF).

Championship Certified Adjudicator by North American Dancesport Teachers Association (NADTA) and USA Dance.

Certified Scrutineer by National Dance Council of America (NDCA), recognized by USA Dance.

In addition to judging and chairing, Yuehwern and her partner, Daniel, spend most of their time being the head coaches of the Purdue Latin & Ballroom Dance Team. Yuehwern founded this college team in 1995 and it has been highly ranked in the USA Dance collegiate national events. In 2010, the Team was invited to compete on Season 10 of Dancing with the Stars on Fox, and placed second in collegiate formation team competition at the finale.

Yuehwern was runners-up in USA Dance National Dancesport Championships and later finalists in professional events in a span of 15 years.  Throughout her dancing career, she is passionate about learning; teaching, and helping students find their pathways to success on and off the dance floor. Over 20 years, the competition team she works with is an incubator of many Dancesport competitors, professionals, and lifelong dancers. Each year Yuehwern is also the key person to organize the Purdue Ballroom Classic, which attracts more than 400 collegiate competitors from 20+ universities in the Midwest area for the last two decades.

Yuehwern studied ballet and performed with the Lafayette Ballet Company before learning ballroom dance.  Besides dancing, she completed her B.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, specializing in smart operations and system engineering.  She is currently a Full Professor in Industrial Engineering at Purdue University, the Academic Director of LASER PULSE (Long-term Assistance and Services for Research, Partners for University-Led Solutions Engine) Consortium, and the Associate Director of Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering.

Bill Davies

Bill Davies started his professional dancing career in 1958 with the Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Hartford, Connecticut.  In 1963, he left Hartford for New York City to begin his independent teaching and competitive career in what is now called DanceSport.

 

Shortly after his arrival in New York, he opened a dance studio called “The Studio” where he developed a system of teaching and social communication which has become the standard for many of the independent dance studios in the metropolitan area.

 

During his career spanning more than forty years, he was one of the founding professionals of the Pro/Am competitions which have become the main stay of U.S. events today.

 

Bill has studied with three generations of top world class coaches, competed with five different professional partners, and was a member of the first, as well as several other United States teams which represented our country at the British Ballroom Championships held in Blackpool England. Bill placed eighth in the 1978 World Championships in Tokyo Japan. He has won and been a finalist in numerous overseas championships. He is a nine time "North American Champion", and a three times "United States Champion." He also placed second in the "United States American Style Championships," and has been a finalist in many Latin Championships.

 

From 1966 through 1972, Bill Davies was Vice Chairman and Chairman of the National Dance Council of America. He was instrumental in negotiating the original charter between The National Dance Council of American and The American Ballroom Company. This charter gave the American Ballroom Company the right to organize the annual UNITED STATES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. He was the Eastern Vice President of the Professional Dancer's Federation for 17 years having held this position fro 1994 through 2011

 

Bill holds Membership and Fellowship degrees with the Imperial Society of Teachers Dancing and is an examiner for the North American Dance Teachers Association. Currently, he is coaching and judging amateur and professional couples throughout the world.

Cincinnati Ballroom Classic Rising Star Champion; Volunteer State Rising Star Champion; Finalists in many US competitions; Daniel is the head coach of the Purdue Latin & Ballroom Dance Team, which has about 125 members each semester, requiring competitive coaching in all levels from Newcomer to Champ. Daniel also co-organizes the annual Purdue Ballroom Classic Competition, which attracts more than 400 collegiate ballroom dance competitors each year in the Midwest. 

Yang Chen

                                    Master of Ceremonies - New York

 

Yang Chen has been dancing for more than thirty years and is currently serving as President of the Greater New York Chapter of USA Dance and was USA Dance National President from 2014-15. Yang has extensive experience as a Master of Ceremonies of many ballroom competitions including the Manhattan Amateur Classic, various USA Dance National Qualifying Events, the USA Dance National DanceSport Championships and many collegiate events. He has been a long-time organizer of the Manhattan Amateur Classic, one of USA Dance’s premier National Qualifying Events, now entering its thirtieth year. He lives in New York City, and yes, his first name is pronounced “young.”
